Adoption during COVID-19: Adoption Choices of Oklahoma’s Response
Life does not stop for anything, even a global pandemic. There is no pause button for pregnancy. You might feel afraid that your options are limited because of COVID-19, but that is not the case. Here at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, a global pandemic will not stop us from providing exceptional adoption services. As you consider adoption during COVID-19, please know that we want you to feel as comfortable as possible when meeting with us. You are in control, and we are willing to customize your adoption experience to meet your needs.
Updated Response to COVID-19
Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is now offering both in-person and virtual meetings for birth mothers. Currently, birth mothers in Oklahoma have shown a preference for in-person visits; however, your form of meeting is up to you. Should you choose to visit us in person, all of our adoption caseworkers are still closely adhering to social distancing guidelines for your safety, and the protection of our staff. Face masks will be worn during your sessions with us, unless you request otherwise. Your comfort, safety and health is our top priority.
If you choose to forgo in-person meetings, virtual appointments are still available via ZOOM, FaceTime, phone call, text or email.
Adoption Process Timeline
While it is true that adoptions are still taking place during quarantine, the timeline of the adoption might be slightly delayed. Not everyone operates with the same COVID-19 guidelines. For instance, certain government offices may be running slower than usual, due to understaffing, and some hospitals throughout Oklahoma have changed their visitation policies to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines. Please know that at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, we want you to have the safest and most positive adoption experience possible. Because of this, we are well-equipped to help you navigate through the unique guidelines for each organization.
Also, depending on the location of your child’s adoptive family, their travel abilities may be restricted. Should this be the case, we will conduct virtual meetings until the adoptive family can travel to Oklahoma. At no point will you be asked to travel to them.
Showing COVID-19 Symptoms
If you or anyone in your immediate circle is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, we ask that you adhere to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for COVID-19 exposure. If you test positive, all meetings will be moved to ZOOM or FaceTime until your required quarantining period is over. Additionally, should any member of the adoption triad test positive for COVID-19, your child’s adoption will not be finalized until all parties are given the “all clear” by medical personnel.
We encourage all pregnant women to take extra health and safety precautions to avoid exposure to COVID-19, as so much is unknown about whether or not the virus could cause complications with your pregnancy.
