Adoption In Oklahoma, Birth Parent Support After Placement

A common thing that birth parents think after the adoption for my baby placement is complete, and their adoption journey is over is that they will be alone and their support system will be gone. That is not true at all, especially when you work with us here at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma. We know that it can be hard adjusting back to your life, so we are still here for you after placement to support you in any way that we can. Now your adoption caseworker that you worked with on your adoption journey will still be available to you, but you could need more support or other support. One of the things we recommend to birth mothers after placement is post-placement counseling.

What Is Post Placement Counseling?

Post-placement counseling is like the free counseling our adoption agencies in OK offer to you and other birth mothers we work with. Only the counselor you will have your sessions with is a highly trained professional when it comes to counseling for birth mothers after placement. They will be able to help you deal with the feelings you are feeling, like guilt and sadness, because they have experience working with other birth mothers feeling the same things as you. Birth mothers we have worked with here at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma have said that going to post-placement counseling has helped them deal with the feelings that come with post-placement, and their counselor has helped them get back to a more normal life. Now just because that post-placement counseling works for some does not mean that it will work for you, and that is okay! There are other avenues you can take when it comes to birth mother support post-placement.

Support Groups For Birth Mothers Post Placement

Another option you can try is finding a support group for birth mothers that have gone through the adoption process in Oklahoma and have dealt with the same feelings you are dealing with or are in the same position as you. You will be able to speak your mind and your feelings with other birth mothers, and they can comfort you and provide you with advice on how to deal with the feelings you are feeling and move forward. Birth mothers who have worked with us here at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma have said that finding a support group for post-placement has helped them heal and move forward. A big reason why support groups for birth mothers dealing with the feelings of guilt and sadness after the placement are popular among birth mothers are that it also lets them know that they are not alone and they are not the only ones trying to deal with these feelings.

Do Not Be Afraid To Talk About How You Are Feeling!

A very important thing to remember when it comes to dealing with post-placement is not being afraid to voice your feelings. Here at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, we know that you could be feeling scared to talk about how you are feeling, but it is never okay to hold these feelings inside, and it is not good for your mental health. We are here for you if you just want to talk about what you are feeling, or you could talk about these feelings with your family or friends. You could talk about topics to help you move forward are guilt, sadness, and being scared to have another baby. Birth mothers we have worked with have said once they finally opened up about their feelings and even talked about some of the topics above, it helped them heal and start to move forward. You have every right to be feeling what you are feeling, and we are here for you if you just need to or want to talk.
