Are Birth Fathers in Oklahoma Adoptions Forgotten?

If you are a birth father in Oklahoma, you probably have some questions about your role in the adoption process. While many people think of birth fathers as absent in the adoption process, it is important to remember that you still have a number of rights. As the birth father, we understand that your role may be confusing and difficult, but we are here to make sure that birth fathers in Oklahoma are not forgotten in the Oklahoma adoption process. At Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, we are here to help you throughout your adoption process, no matter your role. Our adoption agency in Oklahoma will provide adoption counselors and caseworkers that will work with the birth father and mother to create an adoption plan that works for both you and your child.

Birth Father Rights in an Adoption

As the birth father, you have a number of important rights throughout the Oklahoma adoption process. First and foremost, you have the right to determine whether or not to become involved in your child’s adoption plan. While some birth fathers in Oklahoma still choose not to involve themselves in the adoption process, it is not uncommon for the birth father to have an active role in their child’s adoption.

In an Oklahoma adoption, the birth father and mother are both generally required to consent to place a child for adoption. That being said, it is still possible for unmarried pregnant women to begin the adoption process without the consent of the birth father. If you find yourself in this situation, you will have the right as the birth father to contest your child’s adoption. However, if you do consent to your child’s adoption, you have every right to work with the birth mother to create an adoption plan that works for everyone involved.

Creating an Adoption Plan as an Oklahoma Birth Father

If you are a birth father in an Oklahoma adoption, you have the right to a say in your child’s adoption plan. This means that you can help the birth mother decide who will raise your child and how much contact will remain between you and the adoptive family. While many birth fathers in Oklahoma prefer maintaining a distance from the adoption process, we encourage you to take an active role in preparing for your child’s future.

The first step of your adoption process is to think about your own preferences. Do you want to remain in contact with your child and his or her adoptive family, or would you rather keep your child’s adoption arrangement anonymous? What kind of family would you like for your child to be raised in, and where would you like for them to live? After thinking about these questions, you should discuss your adoption preferences with the birth mother and come to an agreement. At this point, your adoption caseworker will be able to help you create an adoption arrangement that lines up with your wishes.

Birth Fathers are Never Forgotten in Oklahoma Adoptions

As a birth father, you have a very important role throughout the adoption process. After all, you are the child’s father, and you will always have a special place in his or her life, even after their placement with the adoptive family. While you certainly have the right to not involve yourself in your child’s adoption plan, it is never too late to change your mind. Provided that you discuss your wishes with the birth mother and your adoption caseworker, you have every right to take part in your child’s adoption.

At Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, we believe that every parent has the right to a say in their child’s adoption. As the birth father, we encourage you to take part in your child’s adoption arrangement, and our adoption counselors and caseworkers will work with you to make sure your voice is heard.
