Are You a Good OK Surrogate Candidate?
If you are interested in becoming a surrogate mother, the odds are that you are curious to find out if you are a good candidate. You will have to meet many different qualifications relating to your physical, mental, and financial states. If that seems very in-depth, that’s because it is. Surrogacy agencies want to ensure that their surrogates are the best they possibly can be! If you want more details, head over to Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Oklahoma to learn more! In the meantime, answer some of these questions to see if you would be a good fit as a surrogate mother.
- What are the Age Requirements for OK Surrogacy?
While this may seem like a pointless question at first, it is actually incredibly important. A lot of prospective surrogate mother do not know that there is actually both a minimum and maximum age limit for being considered a good or even viable surrogate mother option. In the United States, you must be between the ages of 21 and 39 to even be considered for the surrogacy process.
- Do You Have a Healthy Mental/Physical History?
This should go without saying, but in order to be seen as a good candidate for raising another body inside you, you must be able to show that you treat your own body with respect and care. For this reason, there are several physical benchmarks that many surrogacy agencies require you to meet before you can be considered as a potential candidate. One of these is having a healthy Body Mass Index of between 18 and 31. You also need to have had no history of mental health issues or of having been medicated for any such related disorders or problems. Also, you need to be a non-smoker and must not have a history of illicit drug usage or alcohol problems.
- Are You Emotionally Ready to be a Surrogate Mother?
You should be really, really sure about this before making any further steps in the surrogacy process. Many women do not expect the serious emotional, and mental toll that being a surrogate mother can have on them. Not only would you be going through a pregnancy, which is already an emotionally taxing and physically exhausting process, but you would also be doing it for someone else and giving up the baby you have spent nine months raising at the end of it. While you may know logically that this is a noble and selfless act, it can still be hard, and you may have a negative empathetic reaction to the process. You may find yourself going through thoughts, feelings, and experiences you were not expecting and did not prepare yourself for. You must be ready for this possibility if there is even a chance you want to be a surrogate mother!
- Do You Want to Help Others?
If you are truly interested in becoming a surrogate mother, this question should be the easiest and the most important one to answer. Choosing to become a surrogate mother for someone is an extremely brave, extremely selfless act. You are giving another woman, couple, or family the chance to have something that they would not have had without you: a child. There is no greater gift in this world than that. Choosing to be a surrogate is one of the best ways to help others, and if that is something you are interested in, almost nothing else should even matter!
