What Does Giving a Baby Up for Adoption Look Like at 8 or 9 Months Pregnant?

Whether you are 1 month, 3 months, or 8-9 months pregnant, Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is here to help you at any point in your pregnancy! Please do not feel like you have to be at a certain stage of your pregnancy when you choose adoption. We are always here to help you and guide you with every step, even if the process may be more rushed than others. So, for your convenience, here are the detailed steps of the adoption process

Step 1: You Will be Assigned With an Adoption Specialist

Your adoption specialist will schedule a one-on-one meeting with you! You can contact your specialist in whichever way makes you the most comfortable. It can be in person, via video call, or via phone call. This scheduled appointment will allow your Adoption Specialist to get to know you personally. During this time, you let us know if you need a doctor, the type of family you are searching for, your medical background, and your financial needs.

Step 2: You will Begin Your Adoption Plan!

An adoption plan is a personalized outline of your decisions when going through your adoption journey! This plan is fully customized for your needs and what makes you feel comfortable. This summary will the important details of your journey.

Firstly, your Adoption Specialist will provide you with a variety of family profiles. But before you are provided the profiles, you will choose the level of communication between you and the adoptive family. The types of communication are open adoption, semi-open adoption, and closed adoption. Here is a more detailed version of those three levels.

  • Open Adoption: Open Adoption is when you and you are chosen adoptive parent’s contact information is shared. Therefore, no barriers are put up to prevent contact.
  • Semi-Open Adoption: Semi-Open Adoption allows communication that is between open and closed adoption. Moreover, this allows communication, such as letters and pictures. But it is not as open as open adoption, where you get to share personal information.
  • Closed Adoption: This type of adoption means that you and your chosen adoptive parents have no contact with one another at all.

You will get to choose which one matches your needs the most. However, If you do not like any of these profiles provided, please let your Adoption Specialist know. That way, they will be able to provide you with additional family profiles that have also been carefully screened!

When you have matched with a family, your Adoption Specialist will help you converse with your adoptive family on call. Then, you will be meeting with the family face-to-face. Your Adoption Specialist will be present with you and help you through this process!

Step 3: You will Continue your Adoption Plan by Outlining Your Hospital Plan

Your Adoption Specialist will talk to you about your hospital plan. She will be able to help with transportation and take you to your doctor’s appointments. Your Adoption Specialist will pay your bills and other essential needs (transportation, clothes, etc.) once a judge approves your expenses.

Additionally, your Adoption Specialist will be with you during your birth. You can also spend this time with your baby and your adoptive family. After you leave the hospital, your Adoption Specialist will take you to court, where you will hand over your parental rights. But you can still see your baby and your adoptive family.

Step 4: The Support Will Continue Up To Eight Weeks Post Delivery

Up to six weeks post-delivery, you can have access to counseling during that time. We are here to help you even after your delivery! Depending on the level of openness of you and the adoptive family, you will be able to have the preferred communication right after!
