How hard is it to place a baby for adoption in Oklahoma?

By Blessing E. Ikhimokpa

Placing your child up for adoption doesn’t mean you’re “giving them up.” It means you’re placing them in a home that will care for them. When you find an adoption agency in your area, they’ll guide you in the right direction. At Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, the adoption process doesn’t have to be difficult. With decades of experience, we can help you find the answers you seek.

Is placing a child up for adoption hard in Oklahoma?

Putting a child up for adoption in Oklahoma isn’t hard. If you’re seeking adoption help, you can contact your local adoption agency. To see what your options are. With the adoption process, you are in control of your adoption plan. No one else but you can decide whether or not you want to place your child up for adoption.

What are the steps needed when placing a child up for adoption?

When considering placing a child up for adoption. Think about these steps:

  1. Why are you considering adoption?
  2. Find an adoption agency of choice
  3. Think about which adoption option you’ll choose
  4. What family are you looking for?
  5. What does your birth/hospital plan look like?

What do you need to ask yourself when considering adoption?

You’ll need to ask yourself; why did you consider adoption? What were your options? After you ask yourself those questions, look up the Oklahoma adoption laws. What do they say, and how do you feel about them? The adoption can’t be reversed in Oklahoma unless the birth mother has to prove the adoptive parents have engaged in fraud. Other than that, the adoption cannot be reversed.

What are the services Adoption Choices of Oklahoma offers?

At Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, the services we offer are:

  • Counseling
  • Financial help
  • Different adoption options
  • And many more.

Will there be counseling available once the adoption process is over?

We offer to counsel birth mothers because placing a child up for adoption can take a toll. Often, birth mothers feel guilty because they’re afraid of what the birth child will think of them. Their guilt makes them question their decisions and question whether they did the right thing. That’s why we offer to counsel. To make sure the birth mothers don’t feel guilty or be too hard on themselves.

Is financial assistance available to birth mothers in need?

We also offer financial help. Becoming pregnant comes with finances. Finances not everyone can afford, especially if it’s an unplanned pregnancy. Since it’s an unplanned pregnancy, the birth mother hasn’t planned out their finances, so we offer financial help to those birth mothers who need our help. For example, we offer financial help with buying clothes, helping find food, helping with their bills, etc.

What are the different adoption types in Oklahoma?

Are you pregnant and considering adoption but don’t know which type of adoption type to choose from? Don’t worry, at your adoption agency of choice. You’ll have the option to choose an adoption option. At our agency, our counselors will help you find the right fit for you when placing a child up for adoption. Depending on whether or not you’ll want a relationship with the birth child. Will determine the adoption choice you pick. Oklahoma similar to other states. There are three main types of adoption to choose from: open, semi-open, and closed adoption.

Open adoption is for birth mothers that want to place their child up for adoption. But you also wanted to be a part of their lives. Wanted to be there as they grew up. In this choice, both the adoptive parents and you will be able to have full communication. Be it in person or on the phone. When it’s time to give birth, the adoptive parent(s) can be in the room with you.

A semi-open adoption similar to an open adoption. There will be some communication with the adoptive parent(s). But only during the birth. That’s why it’s called semi. It’s not fully open. You’ll still be able to choose the adoptive parent(s). But the communication won’t be as open.

Lastly, there won’t be communication between both parties in a closed adoption. The adoption agency will do everything. But in this, you’ll still be able to choose the adoptive parent(s). This option is chosen if you’ve decided that once the child is born. Your job is done, and you’d like the adoption agency to handle the rest.
