I’m Pregnant Again: Adoption with the Same Agency
Facing an unplanned pregnancy can be a scary and stressful time, especially if you just had a baby. However, there is no reason to panic. It is okay to have multiple unplanned pregnancies. It is also okay to place multiple babies up for adoption. Just because you had a second unplanned pregnancy does not mean you should feel ashamed or embarrassed.
Know that Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is here to support you and help you through the entire adoption process, even if it’s not your first. We understand that there will be some questions you have about placing a second baby up for adoption. This is why we’ve compiled this list of questions in hopes of easing your mind and putting any worries you might have to rest.
Isn’t it Weird I had Multiple Unplanned Pregnancies?
One big concern with birth mothers is that people will shame them for having a second or third unplanned pregnancy. This leaves birth mothers feeling embarrassed and worried about how an adoption agency might treat them differently the second time around. The truth, though, is that Adoption Choices of Oklahoma will never treat you any different. We will still be here to support you throughout the entire process. You are never alone!
Can I Adopt with the Same Agency?
The short answer – yes! If you choose to place your second child for adoption, our case workers will be happy to work with you. We will be here to help you in any way that we can, whether this is your first baby or third. We know it can be a challenging and scary time, and that adoption is not an easy decision to make. Just make sure to remember that we are here to support and help you no matter what.
Can My Children I Place for Adoption be Siblings?
Biologically — of course! As far as through adoption, this depends on the adoptive family. If this is the route you hope to go down, our case workers can contact the adoptive family to see if they would be willing to have a sibling adoption. If not, or if the adoptive family cannot take in another child, we can try to help arrange for the siblings to still be in contact with each other.
Do I need To Create a new Adoption Plan?
Yes, you will need to create a new adoption plan in Oklahoma. However, since you have already been through the process once, you will know what to expect. The plan will discuss any changes that have happened since your first adoption, including possible changes in financial or health assistance, housing or counseling. It can also be a chance to change parts of your first adoption that you did not like. For example, if you chose a closed adoption for your first child, you can still request an open adoption for your second child.
Creating a new adoption plan is helpful because it can help both you and the caseworker sort out what parts of the adoption process you enjoyed and which ones were a lot harder to get through. That way, you can ensure the best possible outcome for both yourself and for your child.
How can I Avoid Pregnancy Again?
There is always a chance of having multiple unplanned pregnancies. It is just something that can happen. However, if you are trying to stop an unplanned pregnancy from happening again, there are preventative measures you can take to ensure you do not get pregnant. One option would be to use protection during sexual intercourse, and to ensure you are using them properly. There are also opportunities to take contraceptives, like birth control. After placing your baby for adoption, talk to your health care provider about which option would be best for you personally.
Will I Still Have Support during My Adoption Pregnancy?
Always! One thing you never have to worry about during your pregnancy is the support you will receive from Adoption Choices of Oklahoma. Whether it is your first time placing your baby up for adoption or your third, we will still be here to support you no matter what.
