Merry Christmas from Adoption Choices of Oklahoma

Merry Christmas from Adoption Choices of Oklahoma! The holiday season has begun, and families celebrate and spend time together. However, this can be a stressful or great time for birth mothers, depending on their situation. Whether you are a birth mother who just finished their adoption process dealing with the elevated levels of grief, or one in an open adoption getting ready to celebrate the holidays, Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is here to help.

Tips for Celebrating the Holidays for Birth Mothers in an Open Adoption

Now while this can be a great time for you, it can also cause you some stress. You can be dealing with some added pressure this holiday season because this can be the first to celebrate with your child and the adoptive family. It is okay to feel this way, and Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is here for you, and we have some tips that can help you have a wonderful holiday season with them.

For starters, a good way to celebrate the holidays with your child and the adoptive family is to celebrate holiday traditions. You can create new traditions with them, share some you celebrated with your family as a kid and participate in the traditions they celebrate. All of these are good ways for you to bond with your child and build your relationship with him or her. This also gives you a great opportunity to build your relationship with the adoptive family as well. A key aspect of celebrating holiday traditions with your child and the adoptive family is incorporating their interests if you start new traditions or share ones from your childhood with them. This will allow for them to enjoy the time you are all spending together and enjoy the tradition you are starting with them or sharing with them. You want them to enjoy these traditions so they will want to participate in the next holiday season and look forward to them rather than them being not interested in the traditions and not wanting to participate in them the next holiday season.

Another thing you can do this holiday season is with your child and the adoptive family to get a gift for your child. Here again, you want to get a gift that involves one or multiple of your child’s interests. A gift like this will let him or her know that you care about them and are interested in their interests and them. When it comes to looking for a gift for your child, do not hesitate to consult with the adoptive family. They have insight into what your child is interested in and what they enjoy. Communicating with the adoptive family on this will also build your relationship with them. This will show them that you care and you want to be a part of your child’s life.

Support for Birth Mothers During the Holiday Season

Now, if you are a birth mother who is dealing with the heightened levels of sadness and grief that come with the holiday season, Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is here for you. Our offices are open all throughout the holiday season, and you will be able to see our counselors when you need to. On top of seeing our counselors, we can also help you find other avenues of support if needed. We can help you find a post-placement counselor who can help you work through these feelings you are dealing with. A post-placement counselor is a highly trained professional counselor who has experience working with birth mothers who are going through or have gone through what you are currently experiencing. We can also help you find a birth mother support group. Who else is better to help you work through these feelings than other birth mothers who have gone through the same thing and have dealt with the same feelings. Now there is nothing wrong if you need to go with more than one of these options of support. Everyone is different, and we want to help you in any way that we can.
