Should I Adopt During Quarantine?
It seems like the world we live in is getting crazier and crazier by the minute. From COVID-19 to race relations to everything in between, this is certainly a trying time for everyone around us in one way or another. For those looking to adopt, this time is even more trying than ever. There are so many questions and uncertainties about our society today. Regarding adoption, there is a question that many adoptive families are pondering: Should I adopt during quarantine?
Here at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, we want you to know that we will be with you every step of the way. Of course, adopting or doing anything through these times is difficult. However, we are here to answer all those questions and help you feel more comfortable about your adoption no matter what is happening in the world around us.
Should I Adopt During Quarantine?
The short answer – yes. Pandemic or not, there are still plenty of babies and children looking to find their second chance. The long answer is that there are a lot of challenges in place right now. With courts shut down, stay-at-home orders, overflowing hospitals and more, there are a lot of obstacles that both the birth and adoptive family will face. Nevertheless, a pandemic does not stop the fact that there are children that still need to be adopted. Throughout this blog post, we hope to answer some of those questions for you.
Are Adoptions Still Happening?
Yes, adoptions are still possible and definitely still taking place. COVID-19 does not stop the adoption process as there are still children who need to be adopted. After all, babies have their own schedule and come no matter what is happening. While the process might not be exactly the same as it was pre-pandemic, a lot of the process is still the same with just a few adjustments.
What Differences Will I Face?
Adoption is always a challenging option. However, it seems that, in today’s world, it’s more challenging than ever. Despite the challenges the world is facing, adoptions are still possible! There just might be some changes in the way the process is handled. For example, one big change seen is the shift to more virtual meetups. While pre-pandemic, there might have been chances to meet with the birth family in person, most meetups now are happening via text messages or video chat.
Another difference is what happens in the hospital. A lot of hospitals have limitations on the amount of people that can be with the birth mother while she gives birth. Nevertheless, the rules and regulations depend greatly on the hospital and the area they are in. Some might be more open to visitors while others might have strict protocol for visitors. Your adoption counselor will help ensure you know the rules of the hospital before entering and be there to answer any questions you might have throughout the process.
Is It Worth The Hassle?
Absolutely! With Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, you will always have someone to join you on the journey. While there are extra protocols in place, you are not going through the process alone. Even if you are going through it alone, your counselor will always be by your side. They are there to help answer any questions you have throughout the entire process, and help guide you through the experience. Even though this is a new time for us all, it is most definitely not something you have to go through alone. We will still be here to help and be there for you!
