Surrogacy Requirements: Why Certain Requirements are in Place for Surrogacy in Oklahoma

Do you know someone who is struggling with infertility? It could be a close friend or a relative. It’s difficult to watch the people you care about suffer. It makes you wish you could alleviate some of the pain they’re experiencing. Because of their infertility, they might be considering gestational surrogacy. Maybe they’ve asked you to be their surrogate, or maybe you’ve offered to become their surrogate.

As a woman interested in becoming a surrogate mother, you probably have some questions about the recruiting process. You probably want to know what the requirements for becoming a surrogate are and why such requirements exist in the first place.

Here are the surrogacy requirements all surrogates should be aware of when wanting to work with our surrogacy agency, Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Oklahoma.

Age and Health Requirements for Surrogacy in Oklahoma

Several different age and health requirements are in place for gestational surrogacy. The surrogate must be a young woman, between the ages 21 and 39, who has given birth before. Preferably, she has a positive pregnancy history. Her past pregnancies were successful with no complications, and the children she gave birth to were born healthy.

A woman cannot smoke nor drink during the surrogacy process. If the surrogate mother is a smoker, she should stop smoking several months before the surrogacy process begins. A woman with any sexually-transmitted diseases will not be considered for surrogacy.

These requirements are in place to guarantee the surrogacy’s success. We want to make sure both the surrogate and the child are healthy.

Obligatory Evaluations for Surrogacy in Oklahoma

Gestational surrogacy is a long process with multiple steps. After submitting her application, a woman must undergo physical and psychological evaluations. This is to ensure that she is healthy enough to participate. This is also to ensure that she is willingly participating in the surrogacy.

We want to make sure no one is forcing her to participate. We also want to make sure she is participating for the right reasons. A surrogate mother should genuinely want to help intended parents start a family.

These evaluations are also in place to make sure the woman knows what the surrogacy process entails. We want to make sure she is mentally and emotionally prepared to carry and deliver a child she’s not related to, a child she can’t take home with her.

Other Surrogacy Requirements in Oklahoma

A woman interested in becoming a surrogate through Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Oklahoma must live in the United States. She must pass a background check, and she must be self-sufficient. A woman on public or government assistance will not be considered.

Were any of These Surrogacy Requirements in Oklahoma a Surprise?

Gestational surrogacy is a long, tedious process. Because of this, it’s important that the surrogates we bring in are healthy, fertile, self-reliant, and mentally prepared. If you fit the age and health requirements, or if you have any additional questions about becoming a surrogate mother in Oklahoma, be sure to contact us.
