The Adoption Services that Adoption Choices of Oklahoma Offers Birth Mothers
We know your mind is probably racing with thoughts right now. Those thoughts might include: I’m pregnant? What am I going to do? How can I afford this? What are my options?
We want you to know that Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is here for you. Here is a rundown of how our agency can help you as you navigate through your pregnancy. We offer adoption services throughout every stage of your pregnancy and adoption journey. We look forward to helping you!
First Steps and the Adoption Process
When you first come to Adoption Choices of Oklahoma as a potential birth mother, our staff will walk you through your options: parenting, termination or adoption. Should you choose to utilize our adoption services, we will then assign you a Birth Parent Counselor who will support you during the adoption. We will never turn you away because of your situation. We are a non-discriminatory agency that supports people of all races, ethnicities, sexualities and relationship statuses.
Adoption Choices of Oklahoma strongly encourages open adoptions, because we believe this level of openness in an adoption benefits everyone. However, if you decide that open adoption is not for you, your counselor can help determine which type of adoption would best fit into your lifestyle. Your adoption plan is completely customized to meet your needs and requests as a birth mother. You have complete freedom to choose your child’s adoptive family, the level of contact in your adoption and your birth plan, among so many other aspects.
Furthermore, our agency has the ability to facilitate post-birth adoptions if your child is between the ages of 1-3 years old. Even in this situation, our caseworkers have the same respect as if you came to us while pregnant.
Adoption Resources and Support in Oklahoma
In addition to handling the basics of the adoption process, our adoption services include birth mother support — both financially and physically. Our licensed counselors are here to support you throughout your pregnancy and beyond — whether you need an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Mental health is just as important as physical health when it comes to pregnancy. Your adoption caseworker can also assist with helping you find other social service programs and/or provide support for any educational or vocational goals you may have. Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean that your life is on hold or over.
Your adoption caseworker and child’s adoptive family can support you financially by paying for any court-approved expenses you may encounter during your pregnancy. Examples of these expenses include: locating suitable housing, housing and medical bills, rides to doctors’ appointments or the grocery store. Just because you are placing your baby for adoption doesn’t mean that you should not be taken care of.
Our adoption services even continue after your baby has been born. We know that once you are discharged from the hospital and your child leaves with their new adoptive parents, grief can overwhelm you. It’s essential that you have a safe place you can come to and get the comfort you need and deserve. Placing a baby for adoption is the most selfless decision you can ever make, but no one ever promised it would be easy. Far from it. Our free counseling services are available as long as you need them. If your child’s birth father, or other family members want someone to talk to, they are welcome to speak with us as well.
It is crucial to realize that suffering from Postpartum Depression (PPD) is natural and expected. If you experience this, your adoption caseworker can give you resources for support groups — both online or those that may be local to your area. You are never alone.
From start, to past the finish line, Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is here for you. You got this!
