The Difference Between Adoption Process and Adoption Plan with Adoption Agencies in Oklahoma

By Rose O’Connor

Facing an unplanned pregnancy can be overwhelming and scary. You may be thinking about placing your baby for adoption. The reasons may be:

  • You are not ready to parent
  • Currently, you are raising kids by yourself.
  • You are a single parent and feel as though you cannot have another.

That is why Adoption Choices of Oklahoma is here to help you every step of the way. We will provide you with all of the additional resources you need in your adoption journey.

What is the Adoption Process?

The adoption process is a step-by-step process that birth mothers follow throughout their journey. This process includes the steps from choosing a counselor all the way to post-placement support. Here is a breakdown of all of the important steps when putting a child up for adoption

You will be assigned an Adoption Specialist

You will schedule a meeting with your counselor in a comfortable setting that fits your needs. This meeting allows your counselor to get to know you more. Additionally, during the intake appointment, you can ask as many questions as you want. You will also let us know if you have or need a doctor, your needs for the adoptive family, what financial assistance you need, and your medical background.

You will Begin to Look for an Adoptive Family for Your Child

Your adoption specialist will set up a time to see you. This is so we can look into different family profiles for you to choose from.

Once you have a successful match with your adoptive family, you will be speaking with the family on a conference call. Your Adoption Specialist will help you with this process. Then you will be meeting with the family face-to-face.

Your Adoption Specialist will have a Continuation of Support

Your Adoption Specialist will be there to support you continuously throughout the process. She will assist with the main necessary needs. Additionally, your Adoption Specialist will pay your bills and provide you with gift cards for any other needs once the judge approves your expenses.

During your birth, your Adoption Specialist will be with you for assistance. Also, you will be able to meet with your adoptive family and make decisions from there. After you depart from the hospital, your Adoption Specialist will take you to court, where you will renounce your parental rights.

The Support will continue from Your Adoption Specialist Post-Placement

You will receive support from your adoption specialists eight weeks after your delivery date. Moreover, You can also access counseling for up to six months following delivery.

What is an Adoption Plan?

An adoption plan is a more personalized process in your journey. You can personally outline your decisions regarding who you choose to work with and the adoptive family. Moreover, you can outline your hospital plan and post-placement decisions as well. Here are the steps of the adoption plan

Step 1: Choosing Adoption Agencies in Oklahoma

Choosing an adoption agency for your plan is important in your process. We make sure that our agencies will provide the necessary assistance with outlining your plan.

When you choose to work with Tulsa adoption agencies, we make sure to support you no matter what the circumstances are. We will assist you in your decisions in the most welcoming way!

Step 2: Choose your Adoptive Family

Our adoption professionals will help you with choosing your adoptive family. This means that we will provide different family profiles to look at.

You have many options, and we make sure the families are carefully screened. We make sure that all of the families will provide love and support for your child.

Step 3: Outline your Hospital Plan

This plan will outline what you do or do not want during your hospital stay. When you create one before your labor, it will help you mentally prepare for the process. When creating this outline, consider some of the following questions: Who do you want to be present during the birth? Do you want visitors during your hospital stay? Are you going to want to name your baby? Are you prepared for emotions post-adoption?

Step 4: Which Contact to Use Post-Placement of Adoption

You’re able to determine how much contact you’d like with the adoptive family during your pregnancy and post-placement.

Therefore, there are three different types of contact relationships you can have with an adoptive family: open adoption, semi-open adoption, and closed adoption

Difference Between the Adoption Process and Adoption Plan

The adoption plan and the adoption process are similar when you are putting a child up for adoption. But the adoption plan is more personalized. The adoption process is the overall plan for adoption that is the same for every birth mother, whereas an adoption plan is specific to each individual birth mother.

How will the Adoption Specialist Help you With your Adoption Journey?

Here are the ways your Adoption Specialist will help you along with your journey.

An Adoptive Family Home Study

A home study is required by adoption agencies in Oklahoma after the parents file their application. The home study includes background checks, interviews, home safety checks, and paperwork. This process is to make sure that the families provide a safe and nurturing home for your child.

Post- Placement Adoption Check-Ins

Following Oklahoma adoption finalizations, caseworkers will do a follow-up with the adoptive parents and the birth mother. They make sure to check both aspects so that they can see how your child is doing with the adoptive family. They want to make sure that your child is living in a loving and nurturing home. They also want to make sure that you are doing good as well.
