Ways to Celebrate Birth Fathers

On June 21st, we celebrate Father’s Day – a day to recognize fathers and their paternal bond with their child. At Adoption Choices of Oklahoma, we want all fathers to know that they are important too! Placing a baby for adoption should not discredit the fact that the birth father is still a father. They still helped bring the child into the world, and they deserve to be recognized and appreciated just as much as the birth mother does.

Sometimes, though, birth fathers can be the hardest people to shop for! However, even the simplest of gestures can mean the world to a birth father. That is why we have compiled this list of ways to celebrate birth fathers.

Ways to Celebrate Birth Fathers

  • A Handwritten Card

Even if the child is very young and can only draw scribbles on the page, having something tangible that their child made can be very special to a birth father. He will, undoubtedly, cherish it forever and smile each time he sees it.

  • A Picture Frame

If the baby was placed for adoption right after he or she was born, a picture on Father’s Day could go a long way. It could give the birth father a chance to see their son or daughter and how much they have grown. You could send a small picture to the birth father in the mail, or send a picture in a cute little frame as well. Whichever way you choose, the birth father will definitely appreciate being able to see the child, even if it is just in a photograph.

  • A Dad Joke Book

We all know that father that always has some kind of dad joke planned. They get excited over the slightest pun, and would love to tell you how punderful their day was. A dad joke book could not only give them new material for their jokes, but also give them a few good laughs as well.

  • Something Personalized

Whether it’s a matching necklace set, a wallet or a personalized picture frame, getting something that shows a personal touch will definitely mean a lot to the father. When you personalize something, it will not only hold a special meaning to the father, but also show your willingness to put in a little bit of extra effort to make them feel special.

  • Tell Him how much You Appreciate Him

Sometimes, the best Father’s Day gift you can give a birth father is your love and appreciation. The smallest of gestures, like calling and telling him how much he is appreciated, can go a long way. There are many cases where the birth father feels alone during the adoption process. Giving him a call and simply saying thank you can show him that he still matters.

Celebrate the Way You Feel is Right

At the end of the day, celebrating Father’s Day becomes a decision for you and your family to make. Only you can decide the best way to honor the birth father on Father’s Day. Depending on the circumstances, it might be hard for you to reach out to him on this day. However, just know everyone at Adoption Choices at Oklahoma is here for both the birth father and the birth mother! Both deserve to feel special not only on Father’s Day or Mother’s Day, but on every day of the year.
