What is an OK Adoption Plan?

By Tyra Watts

An unplanned pregnancy is prevalent in today’s society and can be an emotional experience for some. Bringing a child into the world is a sacred process, and your and the child’s health is the biggest priority. You can choose many options if you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy, with adoption being of them. You plan and choose the family, and we will handle the adoption details here at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma

What is the Adoption Plan OK?

The adoption process is where you take the necessary steps in giving a baby up for adoption. If you are someone who is considering adoption, you should check out the adoption agencies in Oklahoma. There are many adoption agencies in Oklahoma, and you are in control of your adoption plan. You choose the adoptive family, outline your hospital plan, and decide on contact after your child is officially adopted.

How Does Adoption Impact Birth Mothers?

Giving your baby up for adoption can impact you, the birth mother, in multiple ways. In one way, it can help you choose the right family for your child. If you are currently in school and aware that you cannot take care of a child, adoption can help you continue your educational ventures and provide a safe family for your child.

Adoption can also decrease stress. Parenting is a tough challenge, and not everyone is capable of taking on the responsibilities that come with it. As an adoption agency in Oklahoma, we can help you start an adoption plan that will help your child live the life they truly deserve.

Who Can Help Assist Me In The Adoption Process?

During the adoption process, we will assign a Birth Parent Counselor. They will help you complete the required paperwork, and after that, they will show adoptive family profiles that match what you’re looking for. The Birth Parent Counselor will discuss with you your hospital plan and take you to your doctor appointments. Not only that, but they will be with you during your birth.

Adoption Plans Available in OK

There are three options you can pick from when it comes to adoption in Oklahoma. The first adoption plan is called an “open adoption,” where you, as the birth mother, are in contact with the adoptive parents. The adoptive parents can take part in the labor and birth. After the adoption, there is a form of contact between the birth mother and the adoptive parent (e.g., emails and written letters). There is no in-person contact between the birth mother and child until the child is older.

The second adoption plan, the “semi-open adoption,” is when the birth mother has some choice over which adoptive family will raise the child. The birth mother is shown potential adoptive families to choose from, but information such as last names and addresses is not shown. Personal contact between the birth mother and the adoptive parents can vary, as it is up to the adoptive parents.

In the third and final adoption plan, called the “closed adoption” plan, the birth parent and the adoptive parent have zero contact with one another. The birth mother gives up her child and does not receive information about the adoptive parents. Recently, this adoption plan has declined in popularity.

Can I Still Contact My Child Post Adoption?

Contacting your child post-adoption is a decision that you, the birth mother, can make, and it depends on the adoption plan that you choose (open, semi-open, and closed). It is required that the adoptive family is willing to send pictures and letters at least once a year until the child is eighteen. As the birth mother, you can send pictures and letters as well. We can do this through Child Connect, a system that lets adoptive families and birth mothers share and add photos and videos to the child’s Lifebook anytime. With decades of experience, we can help you find the answers you seek at Adoption Choices of Oklahoma. Putting your child up for adoption is free, and with our services, you can help find a new home for your child.
